Intolerance test
Our aim is to provide an unequalled, comprehensive range of ALLERGY tests on a “one stop shop” basis. Practitioners can now evaluate patients’ allergy/sensitivity by looking at any or all aspects of available blood testing.
Total IgE is a single blood test to identify or eliminate whether a patient has classical IgE allergy issues. IgE is produced in the body as a response to allergens, parasitic infections and other disorders. For example, if a patient presents with a skin rash, hives and/or asthmatic symptoms, testing for elevated levels of total IgE can help a practitioner confirm that these symptoms are due to an allergic reaction. High total IgE may indicate a high probability of sensitization and could be useful in deciding whether further investigation is warranted. Follow-up tests can then be performed to determine the specific cause of the allergy. If the total IgE result is abnormal, consider testing for IgE antibodies to specific foods, inhalants, chemicals etc. These IgE panels are available on request.
If total IgE is within normal limits, consider other possibilities such as :
Whereas approximately only 2-5% of the population has a classical allergy to a food, it is also estimated that more than 70% of the population has some form of adverse reaction to one or more foods or additives, manifesting in a broad range of disorders such as; migraine headaches, weight gain, fatigue, hyperactivity/ADD, arthritis, respiratory and skin disorders, recurring ear infections in children, depression, IBS and various others.
Some patients (who are NOT IgE positive) produce strong, clear IgG antibody responses to “trigger foods” and are identified by the 40 or 93 food profiles (NB: the IgG tests can be carried out either by finger prick or venous sample).

Food and Chemical Sensitivity Tests, include food additives (cross-referenced E numbers); environmental chemicals, antibiotics, anti-inflamatories, moulds, foods (50 and 100 panel).
Some individuals present as being sensitive/intolerant to certain foods without being IgG positive. Others may react to food additives/environmental chemicals or preservatives – these can only be assessed using the ALCAT test.
The ALCAT TEST® is a highly sensitive, patented test that objectively measures the blood cells' reactions to a foreign substance under conditions designed to mimic what actually happens when the food is consumed in real life. Although it can test many foods at once with a single sample of blood it cannot test all foods and so should be used as part of the identification process of sensitivities, not the sole answer.
Our bodies react to foods and chemicals in many different ways. One such way is in the form of an immediate allergic reaction. The ALCAT test does not specifically test for this type of allergy. If you already know that you have what are known as Type 1 or IgE mediated allergies then continue to avoid those items. A well known allergic reaction is for example a reaction to peanuts, which can cause immediate reaction and shock.
Items that may trigger immediate IgE mediated type I reactions may appear on the ‘green list’ of foods due to the fact that the cells involved in such a reaction (the basophils) encompass only 2% of the entire white cell population and will be difficult to detect using this technique. If you are in any doubt then it is sensible to see a Doctor who can identify these types of true allergies.
The immune system is an intricate structure which, under normal circumstances, protects the body from the harmful effects of invading elements - viruses, bacteria, other micro-organisms and toxins. However, sometimes the system over reacts to substances, including foods and food additives, that are not normally harmful.
The result
- hayfever
- asthma
- migraine
- skin problems
- intestinal disorders
- painful joints or muscles
- chronic fatigue
- weight imbalance
What makes identifying these harmful foods difficult is that the symptoms may not emerge until 8-72 hours after eating or may follow a dose/frequency dependence that needs several feedings over several days to weeks
Given that all these responses are described as “delayed action” responses (3 to 6 days post trigger food/chemical ingestion) the difficulty in identifying trigger foods/chemicals is unsurprising.
Hopefully our range of food/chemical profiles will help practitioners to improve the lot of patients suffering from a range of associated and debilitating symptoms (migraine; IBS; fatigue; ADD; osteo-arthritis; skin disorders (eg eczema).
